Match Report:
Purton began their baptism
into 11-a-side with a league game away to Shrivenham
& Watchfield. The new season brought new changes for
Purton with a change from 7-a-side to 11-a-side, bigger
pitches, bigger goals and offsides. What a challenge.
The game started brightly for
Purton with a direct free kick awarded just outside the
18 yard box. Dale Crabbe stepped up, but on this occasion was unable to score. Purton kept up the
pressure, and took the lead when Ryan Norman fed Josh
Harper who scored from just outside the 18 yard box.
Purton's first goal of the season and their first goal in
11-a-side.
Purton continued to create
chances but were soon continually under pressure
themselves. Shrivenham were back in the game and finished
the half strongly to lead 4-1 at half time.
Straight from the whistle for
the second half, Purton looked a different team as they
quickly adapted to the demands and changes of 11-a-side
football. Several opportunities were created with lots of
pressure, but they were unable to score. Mid way through
the half, Ryan Norman broke through and shot from way
outside the box and over the advancing Shrivenham
goalkeeper. The goalie just managed to touch the ball,
but the shot had enough pace on it to hit the back of the
goal....4-2. Purton continued to defend well, and create
chances but were unable to score anymore. Final score 4-2
to Shrivenham.
