Match Report:

Purton faced a tough home game against title chasing Lydiard Boys. The game started fast and furious with plenty of possession for both teams. Unfortunately after 10 minutes, Purton were forced to make a change when Dale Crabbe had to succumb to injury. Purton responded positively and fought for possession with every opportunity. The Purton defence was regularly under pressure, but the defence battled for every ball, with safe hands behind them in goal from Michael Farage. Minutes before half time, Lydiard made the first breakthrough in a tight first half. Half Time 0-1.

The second half continued in the same manner, with Purton pushing forward looking for an equaliser. Midway through the half, Purton leveled the score when Adam Corcoran swung in a free kick from the edge of the area in to the top right hand corner of the goal. Purton's defence was still under pressure, but play was continually switching from end to end as both teams went in search of a winner. As the clock ticked down, a draw was looking lightly, but with only 10 seconds remaining, Lydiard snatched a winner leaving no time for Purton to respond. Final score 1-2.

Coaches comments :

"What can I say? A superb game from both sides played in a competitive but good spirit. The lads were so unlucky to concede a goal as late as they did. I thought they played well and deserved a draw, and shows the progress that we have made this season. Good luck to Lydiard for the rest of the season."
