Match Report :Purton Cubs went in search of their first win of the season and started the game brightly by passing the ball around between defence, midfield and attack. Early in the game Shannon Pocock crossed from the right hand side for Dale Crabbe to sweep the ball home from a few yards out. The goal seemed to have a negative effect on Purton though, who then became a team of individuals with very few passes and often getting caught in possession. Despite regular changes and substitutions the pattern remained the same. Midway through the half Malmesbury struck back with a powerful shot from the edge of the area to leave the game level at half time. A half time team talk seemed to change things as Purton began to play some free flowing football. The passing game had the desired effect when Kieran O'Driscoll scored after several passes had been strung together. Purton continued to pass the ball around and were now beginning to create chances regularly. Despite Purton's pressure Malmesbury again managed to equalise. Purton were now beginning to leave spaces and were again caught out when Malmesbury were awarded a penalty. Simon Randlesome was hurt in a collision with a Malmesbury forward forcing Purton to change their goalkeeper. From the penalty, Chris Stewart dived the right way to force the penalty kick onto the post. Simon Randlesome recovered from his knock to resume his goalkeeping duties but was powerless to stop Malmesbury taking the lead. As the half wore on some good build up play by George Ffoulkes led to a good cross on the left from Dale Crabbe. The cross was perfect for Kieran O'Driscoll, who deftly volleyed home with his right foot to snatch a draw for Purton.

Coaches comments :"I was again pleased with the spirit of the lads who continually keep on going when they are getting beat. We played some good football at times, but not often enough. All three of our goals were scored from some good build up play and passing. If we can keep the same spirit but play the passing game more often, our first win is only a matter of time. The lads are still young and still learning but they are developing well."
