Match Report :

Purton Cubs were looking to continue their recent good run with their second fixture of the weekend. Cubs had already lost to Lydiard earlier in the season but were keen to give a better account of themselves this time.

The first 15 minutes proved to be a real battle as Purton's defence was kept busy. Against the run of play Ryan Norman scored his first goal for the club after a corner lead to Josh Harper squaring the ball for Ryan to score with his left foot... 1 - 0. The Cubs now grew in confidence with Dale Crabbe pulling the strings in midfield. Dale played a defence splitting ball through for Shannon Pocock to score from a one on one with the keeper. Half time 2 - 0.

After battling for most of the first half of the match, Purton now began to take control and began to create chance after chance. After a deep run and shot from Josh Harper, Shannon Pocock followed up to hit a blistering shot into the roof of the net, 3 - 0. Purton kept up the pressure and soon scored when Kieran O'Driscoll followed up after Josh Harper had hit the post, 4 - 0. The goal mouth action was now thick and fast and Chris Stewart stretched the lead with a volley from six yards after a corner from Shannon Pocock. Lydiard tried to play their way back into the with good passing but were unable to beat Simon Randlesome in the Purton goal. With 10 minutes remaining Kieran O'Driscoll hit the sixth with a right foot shot from 10 yards out. Dale Crabbe rounded off a impressive performance with a stunning shot from distance to make the final score...7 - 0.

Coaches comments :

"What a result. After already being beaten by Lydiard earlier in the season, no way did I expect this result. Even after the first 15 minutes, I still thought it was going to be close. But the lads dug in and held on until they got a couple of breaks. In the second half they just went from strength to strength. A big thanks to all the parents for braving the weather, it was atrocious today, but I think that they all still enjoyed it."
