Match Report :

Purton Cubs resumed their league season after the festive break with a return game against Cirencester Colts. Purton had not played for five weeks and looked very rusty with some poor passing and continually being second to the ball. Their play was very scrappy and they soon fell behind to an early goal from Cirencester. As half time approached, Purton created a couple of chances without really threatening the Cirencester goal. A disappointing half for Purton ended with Cirencester deservedly leading 1 - 0.

After a half time team talk, Purton started the second half looking for a quick equaliser but soon fell further behind to an early goal from Cirencester...0 - 2. Although Purton's play was still scrappy, they hit back with a scrambled effort from Kieran O'Driscoll to reduce the deficit to 1 - 2. This was soon followed up with a long range strike from Josh Harper to drag themselves back into the game...2 -2.

Although Purton had done the hard work by getting themselves back level, they again conceded a goal through some sloppy defending...2 -3. The game was then left on a knife edge until the final whistle, but without any more goals being scored. Final score 2 -3.

Coaches comments :

"After the standards we have set ourselves, this was a disappointing performance from the lads. I can't explain why but it just did not happen today. I thought we had turned it around when we got back to 2 -2 after behind behind 2 - 0, but then conceded another goal, which again left us fighting for a goal. Cirencester deserved to win today. Hopefully, this was just a blip and the performance is better next week."
