Purton man of the match : Shannon Pocock

Match Report :

Purton Colts resumed their league season determined to continue their winning streak. Purton applied early pressure but were unable to convert into goals. In the 5th minute against the run of play Anthony Clarke crossed from the right which eluded everybody and ended up in the far corner, 1 - 0 Fairford. This seemed to affect the Purton lads who seemed to forgot their normal passing game.

In the 7th minute, Shannon Pocock shot from the left wing, beating the goalkeeper but not the crossbar. Shortly afterwards, Chris Stewart fired a free kick into the top corner, 1-1. Despite Purton not playing the passing game, they soon took the lead through Shannon Pocock who drilled the ball through a crowded goal area from the edge of the box. The play came in spasms with neither side dominating. As half time approached Fairford equalised with an angled left foot shot from Troy Weaven to leave the game all square at half time.

After the half time team talk, Purton finally seemed to be getting their passing game together and took the lead early in the half through Kieran O'Driscoll. Purton were now improving as a team but again let the lead slip when Danny lee equalised. Purton responded in the best way but again taking the lead through Shannon Pocock. Purton were now playing much better football and again went close through Kieran O'Driscoll after some clever passing during the build up. From the resulting corner, Josh Harper got his head to the ball to give Purton a 5 - 3 lead. As the game entered the final minutes, Anthony Clarke tried a long lofted ball towards the Purton goal which bounced in of the crossbar. Final score 5 - 4 to Purton

Coaches comments :

"Much better passing in the second half which made all the difference and eventually won us the game."
